Linux Vs. Windows 7

The other day I blogged about Linux and the comments seemed to be about 50/50 between Linux and Windows users. Several comments mentioned Windows 7. I admit to having little experience with 7 so I was interested in doing some research. During this research I came across a really good article over on TuxRadar comparing Linux and Windows 7. It was posted a year ago so obviously more recent updates to both could have changed things a bit, but I think it is still relevant. Obviously it is written by Linux users so keep that bias in mind as I did.

You can read the article here:

***UPDATE***
One thing I forgot to mention... The version of Windows 7 used in the tests was a Pre-Official Release version so keep that in mind as well.

  2. Eh, performance is kind of biased towards Linux if you ask me. Of course it's going to perform better, it doesn't have the massive GUI eating up memory.

Not going to hate on Linux, though, it definitely has its place.

  9. I have the opp. to use Windows XP/Vista/7 - and 7 will do it on this front. I also use GNU/Linux (name a distro and I have it running - either native or in a virtual machine somewhere in my 'little farm'). I also have a MacBook Pro.

In saying all of this, I love Linux. I could not do what I do without it. And yet, and everyone can hit me with it, I love my Mac.

    Verdict from me: Windows 6/10 - Mac 9/10 - Linux 9.5/10...

  18. I'd switch to 7 if my computer could handle it. I could bump up to Vista from XP but Vista is a joke.

  21. Good review. As it was written by Linux users, I think it was quite a fair review.

  22. I still love XP, to be honest, but am currently running Vista. I know-I should be ashamed, but it does the job I need it to :/

  23. I've had no problems with 7, just as I had no problems with Vista. I have issues with both, but I feel a lot of it was just anti-Microsoft sentiment. But Slackware forever!

  24. I'm currently running Windows 7, but I have a spare computer that I could instal a Linux on. Would you care to make posts explaining how Linux is used, aimed at the beginners?

  25. I have Windows 7 and I absolutely love it. I got it through my college for free and I have had zero problems with it. Granted i've never used Linux, seems like a lot of work for not a huge benefit, so i can't really compare to two.
